We launched the largest voting information campaign in US history.

The Voting Information Centers on Facebook and Instagram provided official information from election authorities to help people prepare for the US 2020 Election. We estimate we helped a record 4.5 million people register to vote based on conversion rates we calculated from a few states we partnered with. 140 million people visited the Voting Information Center, including more than 33 million people on Election Day.

Design Principles

  • Voter Empowerment.

Everyone should feel empowered and encouraged to engage with the civic process of elections despite party affiliation, gender, race, sexuality, age, or any other face of identity.

  • Inclusion.

Everyone should should have equal access to accurate, trustworthy information about Elections and Voting.

  • Trustworthy Information.

To combat misinformation we created a Voter Information Center on the FB App as a hub for reliable information and guidance.

Brand Illustrations

In the months leading up to the 2020 election, we launched a steady drumbeat of Facebook modules encouraging people to register to vote, access accurate election information, and participate in civic engagement. The campaign featured the familiar iconography of voting stickers and pins with equal usage of red and blue of course.

Fighting Misinformation

We launched the Voter Information Center to put reliable election information into the hands of the 200 million Americans on Facebook. One feature of the Voter Information Center is dedicated to Election Facts as part of a dedicated effort to fight misinformation. We crafted a bespoke iconography system to support the voting facts with clarity and equal usage of red and blue.

Facebook Stickers

Fun fact: this has been Facebook’s single largest event-specific sticker activation. We launched over 50 stickers in English, Spanish, and Chinese to empower people to share they've voted, and encourage others to do the same – regardless of party affiliation or anything else that might otherwise divide us.
